When Gianpaolo Callegari purchased a plot of land in Selva Val Gardena in South Tyrol in 1954, he already had extensive experience working at several hotels internationally. At both the Hotel Excelsior in Florence and the Hotel Dolder in Zurich, he had acquired firsthand knowledge of the international hotel business. In 1960, the Hotel Genziana opened its doors to guests seeking relaxation in the Dolomites.
Numerous expansions and renovations followed in the years to come: the indoor pool was added in 1977, and the spa and sauna area in 2005, along with a guest lounge and various suites. When Gianpaolo died in 1991, his wife Alberta took over operation of the hotel. Today she continues to work alongside her daughter Petra, who runs the 4-star Hotel Genziana and welcomes guests from all over the world.
